OS Distribution Release Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble Numbat)

Ubuntu 24.04 is available as a prebuilt image and netboot install.

This is the LTS release of Ubuntu. This version of ubuntu will be supported by Canonical until June of 2029.

A brief list of changes are below. You can view the Release Notes for all changes.

• Linux Kernel 6.8
• The init system was updated to systemd v255.4
• PHP 8 package was updated to version 8.3.6
• Python now defaults to version 3.12
• The default ruby interpreter was updated to version 3.2.3
• OpenJDK now defaults to LTS version 21
• GCC is updated to the 14, binutils to 2.42, and glibc to 2.39
• LLVM now defaults to version 18
• Rust toolchain defaults to version 1.75
• Golang is updated to 1.22
• .NET 8 is now default
• Nginx web server has been updated to version 1.24
• Apache web server has been updated to version 2.4.58
• containerd package was updated to version 1.7.12
• docker.io package was updated to version 24.0.7

Installation

You can install Ubuntu 24.04 via the VPS Console using option #9 (install new OS image) and selecting “Ubuntu 24.04 Noble Numbat 64-bit”.

Ubuntu 24.04 is only available to HVM instances.
